Frequently Asked Questions

Measure the length and width of the room in feet. Multiply them: Area (sq ft) = Length × Width. For example, a room 12 ft long and 10 ft wide has an area of 12 × 10 = 120 square feet.

1 square meter = 10.764 square feet. To convert: multiply sq m by 10.764 to get sq ft. To go the other way, multiply sq ft by 0.0929 to get sq m. For example, 50 sq m = 50 × 10.764 = 538.2 sq ft.

Split the L-shape into two rectangles. Measure the length and width of each rectangle, calculate each area separately, then add them. Use the Multiple Rooms tab above — add two rooms and click Calculate Total.

1 square yard = 9 square feet (since 1 yard = 3 feet, and 3 × 3 = 9). To convert sq yd to sq ft, multiply by 9. To convert sq ft to sq yd, divide by 9. For example, 45 sq ft = 45 ÷ 9 = 5 sq yd.

Select Inches in the unit dropdown and enter your measurements. The calculator converts for you. Alternatively: multiply length × width in inches to get square inches, then divide by 144 to get square feet (since 1 sq ft = 144 sq in).

Linear feet measure length in one direction (e.g., a 15 ft wall). Square feet measure area in two dimensions (length × width). A 15 ft × 10 ft room has 15 linear feet of length but 150 square feet of floor area. You always need two dimensions to compute square footage.
